Cost Recovery Policy
Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) 478.310 authorizes fire districts to seek reimbursement for costs reasonably incurred while providing firefighting or public safety services in connection with incidents that occur on transportation routes or in ‘unprotected’ areas. This includes, but is not limited to, motor vehicle accidents, fires, and other emergency situations.
The Camas Valley Rural Volunteer Fire Protection District Board of Directors has adopted a policy to recover response-related costs, except when the recipient of services is a taxpayer within the Fire District.
Under this policy, the Fire Chief is authorized to pursue reimbursement from the individual(s) receiving services, the property owner, or the responsible party for incidents such as fires, aircraft crashes, or other public safety emergencies that occur outside the Fire District’s boundaries (unprotected properties) or on transportation routes where no district taxes or assessments are collected.
